We have been getting more and more customers that have a wheat intolerance. Therefore we thought we would try a few new sweet items to satisfy the criteria of a gluten free diet.. The whole area is a little complicated at first in terms of the best flour recipe to use. Some use a mixture of different flours, and also you can buy a ready made plain, gluten free, flour where the mixing has already been done.  We have baked a shortbread biscuit which is very tasty, and last week Pam had a go at a banana cake made with a mixture of maize and other flours. This one tastes different to a wheat based cake but I suspect it is something that celiacs get used to. We hope this will become a regular choice to our sweet menu but it really depends on how popular and how much need is out there.

If anyone has a good recipe for a gluten free cake which has a good shelf life and tastes good, then we would be pleased to receive it and if possible give it a go

We now have a baby changing table installed in the toilet for the convenience of the not inconsiderable number of mums with toddlers who visit us. We hope this will help to attract more mums and their youngsters to the cafe and will be a bonus for our "regular mums."
