Saturday 8th December What a day! Heavy rain all day and so bleak outside. Pam and I weren't in the Cafe today and left it to the girls. They had a good day I am told. Not as busy as last week but the weather probably put a lot of people off. But with only 17 days to go till Christmas there's not too many shopping days left.
We are selling lots of soup, about a
gallon a day. It is proving to be very popular in this damp wet
weather. I have just made some Cauliflower with vegetables, a
Dehlia's recipe which is served with a small pinch of Cheese. It's
very tasty and we will have that on in the Cafe for Sunday.
I have finally cleared out the window boxes, wiped down the frames and glass and it looks all nice and clean now and awaiting the primulas which I have at home just waiting for the opportunity to plant up. Those summer plants were amazing! They flowered from May till October. Now that's good value!!
Pam has not been in the cafe much
lately but she has been very busy nonetheless. She has today
finished decorating St. Michael's Church in Moulton. Earlier
in the week it was Aslacton Church and she has also decorated a
Christmas tree in the Bunwell Church Xmas Tree Festival. Her
tree was on the theme of the circle of life. She has hung from its
branches pictures of Family and friends from birth, through past
memories to departed loved ones. The pictures stir wonderful
memories and her tree is one of 25 displayed in the church. I
have taken some photos so you can get a taste of what it is like.
The Festival was opened today by Richard Bacon M.P. and remains
open until Sunday 16th. If you get a chance I hope you will go
along. On Saturday 15th at 4pm there is a service for children
with a visit from Father Christmas.
Pam and I are in tomorrow, Sunday,
so we are hoping to see lots of happy shoppers stopping by for
refreshments and showing us what they have bought.
Thursday December 13th Well this month is really flying by. I can't believe there are only 11 days to Christmas!!
I mentioned how pretty the yard is looking now its lit up with Christmas lights and Nina took a picture yesterday to show you.
I went and collected our daughter and two granddaughters on Tuesday from Gatwick and she is now getting over the Jet lag and change of temperature at home. It was 80F when she left South Carolina and Yesterday was pretty cold with a severe frost first thing, so they are all feeling the cold a bit. Pam and I are having a few sleepless nights as the little ones get used to the time difference. At the moment they both want to be playing at 1am to 2am in the morning!!
Pam is still fighting her cold, its into its 6th week now so she has got a doctor's appointment tomorrow to see if he can suggest anything. The picture above right is of her is a moment's rest during a busy day. WE don't have rest rooms at Morellos so this is as good as it gets!!
Last Sunday was very busy and everyday this week has seen quite an intense rush at lunchtime. Fortunately we haven't lost too many customers. Those that know us are prepared to wait a while and its never very long before a table comes free. WE also appreciate our customers sharing tables. In fact we actively encourage it, because we only have 9 tables inside. This coming Sunday will be our last of the Sunday openings. As I told you we are not opening on the 23rd as our young granddaughter is being Christened on that day.
We always appreciate our regular customers and this time of year its lovely that some of them take the trouble to give us Christmas cards. We place them on the large mirror by the till and as you will see there is getting quite a collection.
On the same note:- We want to thank, all our customers for their continuing support throughout 2007 and wish everyone A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Pam has been busy today making Shortbread biscuits in the shape of Angels, Bells and Christmas trees and also Mince pies, which are on sale as of today.
We are also launching our Christmas Charity Appeal. This year we are hoping to raise £200.00 from a Lottery to guess the dogs name. £1.00 a go. The money this year will go to Christian Aids, Present Aid. Where you specify what you would like to send to those in need, be it a temporary home to Birthing kits to a flock of ducks or a herds of goats etc. It started today and already we have £25, particular thanks go to the lady that not only had a £1.00 square but then gave us £5.00 as a donation to swell the appeal. We all have so much at Christmas and none of us will miss a £1.00 so come on have a go!! Our customers have always supported our charity appeals so we hope that once again this year will be no exception. Give us a chance to send someone a Christmas present that is really needed.
See you in the Cafe,
Bye Y'all
