Opening Hours

5th. December 2008

Just 20 days to go to Christmas and I hope you are all looking forward to it. Not getting too stressed with all the present buying and preparations? We have certainly noticed the increase in trade as you all come into the city to do your Christmas shopping, and at lunch times we have a great game of find a seat for everyone.

Fortunately you, our customers, are such a friendly crowd that no-one minds sharing tables and that is such a nice thing to do. We only have 9 tables inside and that helps enormously. I always think it's a great way to meet new people and have an opportunity to explore a whole new area of conversation. Also, generally (!), we do have a swift turn round, as our customers are keen to get back out to the shops, so even if there is a wait for tables, it's never too long.

Our Sunday openings started really slowly as the first one was when we had that heavy snow fall and no one came into the city!! However, last Sunday was completely different and lots of you came in to see us, for which we are always grateful.

We continue to receive some lovely complements from you on the friendliness and homely feel to our Cafe and that makes us all very happy because we take a pride in generating that atmosphere and are so pleased when it is noticed and appreciated.

We have been very fortunate this last 2 weeks, to have an excellent work experience young man with us. His name is Barnaby and he has been a real hit with our customers, many of them have remarked on how conscientious and hard working he is. In fact we are going to continue to use him on Saturdays up to Christmas.

I mentioned the increased Christmas trade and to help us to maintain our, generally, quick service, we have taken on another member of staff for the Christmas period. She has done two shifts so far, but from 8th.December, will be working everyday. Her name is JJ and she is a student from Thailand and we are pleased to welcome her onto our small team and hope you will make her feel at home too.

On a sad note, my busy lizzie flowers gave up the fight to survive after the recent cold snap. I have now removed them and the boxes from the windows so it looks so bare now. They did so well this year flowering right from early summer thru to November, a record I think and such good value!

Our hardy smokers continue to brave the weather and sit outside, so we will keep putting out tables for their use as long as the weather is not too wet. But even then we do lend umbrellas!!

Pam has decorated the Cafe for Christmas and we hope you like what she has done and it gets you in the mood for the forthcoming season. Bruce from Looses has put up his blue lights and together with our coloured ones, our alley looks pretty and inviting and Christmassy so come in and see us if you haven't lately.

To all our customers old and new may we all at Cafe Morello wish you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

21st December 2008

The picture below shows the staff getting into the Christmas spirit. The lad at the front is barney. Fiona was not really keen on her hat as you can see. We have had a lovely build up to Christmas. Had in some lovely customers. We appreciate all the good wishes and the girls have really been pleased with the extra tips. We hope you all  have a lovely Christmas and send best wishes for 2009.

Editor's Note:

This year I got in touch with a number of relatives I never knew I had thanks to the wonders of the internet. So where better to meet up than at Morellos where Steven and the gang were in high festive spirits - just look at his hat. Okay Steven you won the bet!!!!!  Anyway below is a pic of our family re-union with many thanks to the staff for re-arranging the tables to accommodate us and to the couple who moved to another table to give us extra space.
